I don’t give a damn about what celebrities do or what is trendy - and I agree that Starbucks overroasts most of their coffees (not all). But I still prefer Starbucks over every other coffee place I have tried, including local coffee shops.
For me, it’s being able to get a guaranteed decent cup of coffee (or other high quality drink) quickly while being treated with courtesy and politeness - plus if I want to hang out, the ambiance is ALWAYS comfortable, clean, pleasant, classy and upbeat with great acoustics and music.
No risk of something that has been sitting in the pot for 2 hours until it tastes burnt or like tar. If you have ANY issue with the product, even if you accidentlly spill your drink after you leave and it is your fault, Starbucks still corrects it IMMEDIATELY, giving you a replacement at no extra cost WITHOUT being asked, no arguments, no disputes, and they never doubt you for a second - and they are NICE while doing it. NO one else does that. And the selection is awesome - something for everybody .
No snottiness or aggravation. I have never had any Starbucks employee be anything but incredibly pleasant, friendly and courteous (except once in NYC in the flagship Barnes & Noble on 3rd Avenue). Is there anything more insulting then spending money somewhere - and then being treated like trash? Personally, I’m sick of it. I will drive out of my way to go to a Starbucks instead of a closer coffee place - and this is the #1 reason why.
Clean, good ventilation and no gross smells. Great acoustics and music. Comfortable chairs and no one bothers you if you want to hang out for hours.
The Dunkin’ Donut across the street from my house always smells - the ventilation is awful and if you sit there for more than 10 minutes, your clothes smell too - the chairs are cheap plastic, locked in place, there isn’t any ambiance, the coffee is only fresh and good during the am rush - rest of the time, it’s a cr*p shoot - and don’t waste your breath complaining. The new owners are usually at least civil though - the old owners were horrid.
Tim Horton and Caribou Coffee and a few other chains are good also - but their coffee is just as expensive as Starbucks, the service and politeness inconsistent, I have NEVER had them replace a spilled coffee without argument, and their ambiance, acoustics and music isn’t as good.
So when I’m traveling on the road and want coffee, my wireless internet search is for the nearest Starbucks. If I’m meeting someone for coffee and I actually want to hear what they say and be comfortable, it will be at a Starbucks. The only viable alternative is Green Mountain coffee which I can prepare myself and purchase at the self-serve check out line in my local grocery store - but there is no place in the store to sit and drink it comfortably, so this is only a good alternative when I have my car and am traveling - and then only if there is no line (or a short line) at the self-check out.

let’s see if i can answer this without sounding soap-boxy - people like to feel like they are doing something “artsy” and “intellectual” and the coffeehouse engenders that kind of feeling. starbucks also happens to be everywhere, and they make good coffee, so that’s where they end up.

I buy it from Railway stations cos I travel a lot

  4. trig_lov Says:

  5. XheartsX Says:

idk, i guess its just a thing, ppl have just come to love starbucks

  6. antswife Says:

It’s a fad. Its the latest hip drink that celebrities drink and those who try and mimic them copy the drink. Starbucks is cool and mind set that its the drink for the sophisicated.
Give me a good ole cup of Folgers any day.

  7. Jenna Says:

its just like how gucci and prada and all those designer names are fashionable. if you can drink it, you have alot of money..
and people like to flaunt it.

  8. Onpage57 Says:

    for regular coffee its $2.10.

    Two words. F*** yeah…..

  10. shes_und Says:

It’s partially because of clever branding and image. Starbucks capitalizes on artsy fartsy, “cultured” image, which influences their advertising, as well as the decor and background music at their shops. I found this quote in a book called No Logo by Naomi Klein, and it sums it up nicely:
“For devotees, Starbucks’ ‘experience’ is about more than a daily espresso infusion; it is about immersion in a politically correct, cultured refuge…”–Advertising Age, 1996.
From there it caught on with people who didn’t care about the image itself so much as the fact that it was trendy.

  11. spicysoc Says:

It has been used in a lot of movies and has a glamorous image. It was also one of the first coffee houses to use fair trade produce which made it popular with both a niche and mass market. The coffee is good too!

  12. eman Says:

because people are so gullible they will do whatever they see a celeb do. look at all these political people half the time their getting something at starbucks when their on the news. its like monkey see monkey do

  13. Twinkie Thief Says:

coffee is only $1.95, the foofoo coffees and the latte’s are $4.00 and up.. just like any other coffee shop….
Starbucks offers a quiet comfortable place to relax, visit and mingle with a friend….still keeping with its traditional start from the beginning…
and the coffee is good and tasty…..something else….when i want a coffee, i can count on going into any starbucks all around the USA and get the same good tasting coffee and the same comfortable relaxing atmosphere…that is why i enjoy their coffee…

  14. . Says:

Starbucks has become so fashionable, because they are on every corner of every city. It is called “brand recognition”.
If you ask me, Starbucks isn’t all that good. I would much rather make my own, or if I want to go to enjoy the “scene” at a coffee shop, I look for the independent shop. Every town has at least one, and they are usually much better than Starbucks.

  15. J.D. Says:

peer pressure. Also, it is more classy and european which American’s love. It does taste good too, so you have to add that in.

  16. heretic0 Says:

I have been wondering the same thing. I think that it’s one of those things that like is a trend among young people.

  17. DatGull Says:

Starbuck’s is a place where people go to hang out with their friends, drink good coffee, and use Wi-Fi hot spots.

  18. Adrea K Says:

  26. Su Says:

i know its so expensive but it taste good people buy it for the reason that everyone has it or likes it

  27. civikchi Says:

Because people see Paris Hilton and Britney Spears with it, and have to follow.

  28. Ali Says:

I don’t mind the people shelling out 4.50 for GOOD coffee but starbucks over roasts there bean and the only reason why they are so fashionable as you say is because there is no small coffee shops that can stay in business because of them. There are too many starbucks that they don’t give small coffee shops a chance to compete.

  29. la_nemis Says:
