What type of paint can be applied smoothly to a coffee mug (porcelain) and will not be scruffed in a dish washer?

Ceramic paints from art supply sites would be best, although they will still be in danger of slight chipping. The only failsafe way of avoiding this is applying a design to a mug before it is finally glazed and fired.

Any paint, I went to a shop in England called the Grapevine, and they used regular paint, then just put it in a special oven…..?
