The whole “morning cup of coffee” thing has intrigued me for a long time. I always wondered if it’s just “an adult thing to do” or if people actually like the taste of it. And doesn’t it seem somewhat counterproductive to have to add so much to it to make it drinkable?
What are your thoughts/reasons on this?

Coffee is really best explained as an acquired taste. Many people do not like the taste of beer to begin with, due to its unique flavor. But after a few beers, people often get hooked. Coffee is very much the same. Of course, some people will like it from the start, but again, people are unique. Acquired taste is a common explaination. And coffee is a bold drink. Some people can handle that black, others like a more mild coffee flavor. Hence, cream and sugar.

the aroma is important to me..
also the balance of taste and how the coffee leaves an aftertaste in my mouth. i started drinking it when i was in high school 30 years ago. i take it black, sometimes i take it with cream and sugar or frothy milk

When I was a kid, I used to put the sugar and the cream adn make my mom’s coffee for her. I foudn it extremely fun. I did it at home, in diners…. And she always let me take a sip. And slowly, I learned to LOVE coffee. ahh…true love. =D

Coffee has always been a family thing. Growing up in my grandparents house, I drank coffee at a young age when we went on our camping or fishing trips. (Probably why I’m so short.) Everybody on my side of the family take their coffee the same way (lots of cream and sugar). My husband drinks his coffee black and always asks me if I want some coffee with my sugar.

I didn’t drink coffee until my first long-distance car trip. I like it with a splash of milk and a bit of sugar.

The smell is awesome! I usually don’t get very much sleep, so I look forward to the coffee to perk me up a bit. My dad has always worked like crazy, getting up @ 3:30am until six @ night. No, I am not exagerating. Anyways, I would wake up with him sometimes that early and have a cup of joe with him. At such an early age, that milk and equal made the taste much easier to get used to, and thats what happened, I got used to it!

Mom let us drink coffee as kids - half and half, it tasted great with pancakes. We thought we were acting like adults to drink it. Having it that way led to continuing to use some milk when older, but black coffee really can be great. It’s nice to have a hot drink in the morning, don’t need to drink regular coffee.

I started in high school. I liked the taste and the effect of the caffeine. It became a habit. As habits go, there are worse ones than that.

My mom & dad drank coffee & I tried it with sugar & a little cream… until I got older & found out I could take it without cream (calories) & then switched my sugar to Equal. I now make it very weak as I did this when my doctor told me to cut my caffine in half for health reasons. I did, it worked & now I use about 1 tablespoon of coffee to an entire 12 cup pot, add about a 1/2 teaspoon of Hazlenut Cream coffee & its awsome! I don’t even have headaches anymore if I don’t drink it. I’m free now from my caffine addition & drink it 24/7 if I want… or not with no side effects!

I love coffee!!!!!! Sadly I’ve drank coffee for as long as I can remember and I’m 29!! As a kid my Dad would leave me a small cup next to my bed when he left for work in the morning. But now as an adult I just love drinking something warm in the morning. At one point I could drink up to 4 cups in the morning and want more. Currently I limit myself to one cup and it must have flavored creamer and sugar!
