Is It Good To Throw Coffee Grounds Down The Sink?

Coffee Talk

I once worked in a large country house where I was told to throw the coffee grounds down the sink as it is good for the sink. I am not sure if this is true. Does anyone know as I don’t want to block my own sink.

I was in the business for thirty two years and I have heard some strange things that people do with coffee grounds but telling someone to throw them down a sink is just plain stupid. It would clog up your drain and you would have a major problem. They are good for your garden or in a compose or in the trash. You can use fresh coffee grounds to clean your nose senses of smell before sniffing your next perfume. Of course the grounds should be in a pouch so you don’t get them in your nose. I could go on and on but I think you know now that the guy was just giving you bad advice.

i have heard that a lot of sinks have an adiktion to caffine,
try and cut down the amount, and after 2 mths change to D-Cafe
the sink wont notice the change

supposed to smell good, and as it is well advertised ,can’t imagine it does too much damage as compared to other stuff that goes down the sink!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. xzone fan.. Says:

no because it makes the pipes block the water in time,

Nope! It’s not good to throw grounds down the sink because they will settle down in the trap and build up until it eventually clogs the drain because they don’t float! Some peole think it’s good because it freshens the odors that sometimes are emitted from the drain, but lemon peels, or baking soda does that far better!
Don’t do it, you’ll be sorry!

Use them to fertilize your garden.

It’s not bad for the sink and I have heard it is good for the disposal if you have one, but the grounds are better used in the garden than the sink.

I don’t know what they were thinking at that country house, coffee grounds are not fiber for your houses plumbing system.
In fact, the coffee grounds will stick to grease and other materials in your drain, and contribute to the pipes slowly allowing less and less water through.
It won’t cause an instant clog, but it will happen over time.
Coffee grounds are compost, put it in your garden and watch your flowers grow.

Chuck them on the flower beds.
    All good biodegradable stuff.
Being an old fashioned old fart, I still use leaf tea and not those nasty little tea bags. All the spent tea leaves go on the flower beds. Extra humus.

No it is not a good idea to throw them down the sink, unless you want plumbing problems in the future. They serve as good fertilizer around trees, shrubs, etc. They also make good compost mixed with dirt, for planting flowers.

NO! I wouldn’t recommend it! I don’t know why someone would say a thing like that. I’ve done a lot of plumbing and you should not put any solids down the drain other than small bits of food in a garbage disposal. A lot of people scrape their plates down it too and will lead to grease build up.

    put them in the garden
    put them in the garden
