Coffee Talk

Hi all,
I’m breastfeeding my daughter and my partner just informed me that the cup of coffee i’m drinking is in fact rocket fuel coffee which has extra caffeine etc to perk you up. Now i’m concerned about feeding my daughter and would like to know how long it generally takes to leave your system.
Thanks alot
Tash x

  1. singletr Says:

It has a half life of 4-6 hours in the body so if you have 3 cups during the day there will always be some in your system.
Experts say to limit yourself to 300 mg of caffeine (about 3 shots espresso, 2 cups of good Arabica brewed coffee, or 1 cup cheap Robusto brewed coffee). A little will be in the breast milk, but the experts say it’s not enough to harm the baby.
Personally, I would switch to tea (1/3 the caffeine of coffee) while breastfeeding as I never trust “acceptable” levels when talking about infants.
