I have a new Tempurpedic mattress and I spilled a 12 oz cup of coffee on it. I already took off the mattress cover and washed that on gentle in the machine, but how do I get the smell out of the mattress itself? The company suggested arm and hammer baking soda. Is that the best way? Do I put it straight or dilute it?

I haven’t had to remove one like this but I got this from http://www.doityourself.com/stry/coffee
Mix one teaspoon of a mild ph balanced detergent (a mild non alkaline non bleaching detergent) with a cup of lukewarm water
Blot
Mix one third cup of white household vinegar with two thirds cup of water
Blot
Sponge with clean water
Blot
Hope it works. If not, do a google search on coffee +stain +removal

Mix a solution of peroxide and febreze. Peroxide will remove the stain-perox removes organic stains. Febreze for the odor.

Baking soda is good. Make it into a paste - not too runny. Another good solution is Borax. It is a great cleaner as well as deodorizer. Same thing: make it a paste, massage it into stain, and to rinse, use a damp cloth, rinsing it often, and blotting area to dry.

hmmm, how bout spilling something you like on it,that way it wont be a problem anymore

i swear by regular dish soap(the hand kind)
i’ve gotten out stubborn stains out of my carpets and my mattress. i got a huge coffee stain out of my carpet that had been there for over a year. carpet cleaners didn’t work. just use cold water cause warm or hot will set the stain when it dries. i know this will work on your mattress. just don’t soak the sponge or washrag.

Oxy-clean, water and a shop vacuum. Or maybe an upholstery cleaner for a steam cleaner.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:28 am
put it on straight and dry let it set for a while (1-2) hours and vaccuum up.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
buy a new one

If none of the above work getting your coffee stain out I would pour coffee over the rest of the mattress….Coffee is and an excellent beverage and it also makes for a dynamite color…

DONT DRINK COFFEE IN BED
July 8th, 2009 at 1:04 am
That is tough. Most likely the smell has soaked down into the mattress. Coffee stains are very tough to get out, but with professional cleaning and deodorizing, you have a chance.

a more important question is how do you get the come stains out of the pillow case
July 8th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
SPRINKLE ARM AND HAMMER ON LET IT SET FOR ABOUT 5 MINS THEN VACUUM IT UP
July 8th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
What were trying to test it out, like they do on tv? Haha. Try, milk, cold water, and lemon soap.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
I actually have one of those too..
I like the woolite oxy clean spray…it forces the stain to rise up to the top…you don’t have to scrub..just spray..let it sit and then dab with a paper towel.

Put a sheet over the mattress
July 8th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Why don’t you try using a shampooer with an upholstery attachment and mix in a little bit of a product called Odoban. I have alot of pets and this works great. You can get this product at Sams Club.

BY USEING WOOLITE UPHOLSTRY CLEANER, AND THAT SHOULD DO THE TRICK.
July 9th, 2009 at 5:33 am
Sprinkle it directly on the mattress, and yes that is the best way.
July 9th, 2009 at 8:52 am

Well drinking coffee in bed sort of cancels out the benefits of each, does it not? I mean if it’s in the morning well you really should be moving around and trying to get ready. But if it’s in the evening then you really should be drinking something without caffeine (Jolt cola works nicely) but now that the damage is done I guess it’s better than smoking in bed because coffee can give you a really bad burn if it’s hot but a lit cigarette could like kill everyone in the house. Are Temp…temper…that word mattresses flame retarded? ‘Cause if they aren’t then you might not want to bring anything hot near it, you know, just in case right better safe than sorry? Or were you drinking iced coffee? I like iced coffee with soy milk and lots of sugar. Very refreshing? Where was I? Oh yeah heat. No don’t put anything that generates heat or flame in bed because that’s bad. And don’t remove the mattress tags either. That’s bad too. Those tags are there for a reason and your special Swedish mattress will have speciall Swedish tags and if you ever need to have it repaired then the shop will need those tags to know what to do and stuff (like it prolly says don’t dump coffee on the mattress). I think I better go to bed, I’ve done enough damage. Thanks for letting me act like a wanker. For the love of all that’s holy, pick someone more deserving for the ten peanuts. Don’t eat peanuts in bed either.
