Run the maker with a solution of water and lemon juice or water and vinegar. This may not make the appearance sparkling clean, only scrubbing will really do that, but it will go a long way to make the coffee that comes out of them taste a whole lot fresher.

Ice and salt, swish it around until the stains are gone. The salt and ice together make a good abrasive, and its chemical free.
