I just bought a 4-cup coffee maker to replace my broken Krups. The directions mentioned that, before making the first cup of coffee, I should run water through the system first. I did this, but even after a month of using the coffee maker every day, the coffee tastes like plastic. I’ve been using the same filters, water, and coffee as I did in my old machine, so it has to be the new coffee maker. How do I get the plastic taste out of my coffee?

1. Contact the manufacturer. It might have been recalled. In that case they should off to replace it at no charge.
2. Try running a coffee pot cleaner thru it. You can also use diluted vinegar.
3. Return it to the store for exchange or refund.
Plastic coffee is the worst!!!

run a mix of water and vinegar through it….
use equal parts of vinegar and H20, I always use a little
more vinegar…because it creates a very clean taste
and the coffee tastes FRESH after that flush….good luck

I would call the manufacturer and ask what the trick is. You could also run bleach water through it followed by clean hot water a few times.

I just asked the same question. Dang, we must have bought the same brand. I’m going to try the vinegar. I can’t believe they treat a new beverage maker with chemicals that won’t wash out. UGH!!!!

clean it with some white vinegar and water (brew a pot using this mixture)

Try running a vinegar/water mix through it. (half pot of vinegar/half pot of water) That should take care of it.

fill it up with straight white vinegar and run that through it a couple times, then fresh water twice,

My dad had the same problem when he bought this expensive 50 dollars or more coffee maker.I forgot the brand but his was red. I don’t know if the plastic taste ever wore off or not. I would return it.

GET A NEW COFFEE MAKER
eating bits of plastic and the gases from it on a daily basis is not a good idea, to say the least

sounds like a new coffeemaker. try cleaning it with vinegar and actually make a couple of batches of coffe after to clean that new plastic taste out.

try cleaning the coffee pot with a little vinegar and water. fill the pot with water add about 1/2 cup of vinegar and then run it through like making a pot of coffee. make sure to run just water through a couple times after this.

Try running vinager through it then run water through it about 3 times. It may also be your pot. Try a few lemon wedges, salt and a few ice cubes, swish around about a min. and rinse.

I found this method in “Everyday Cooking” magazine. Here’s everything it said with some abbreviations: “A monthly cleaning will help ensure a great tasting cup of coffee. Once a month fill the water reservoir with a mixture that’s half distilled white vinegar, half water. Turn on the coffeemaker. Let several cups run through, then turn it off, & let sit for an hour. Start the machine again to complete the cycle, discarding the vinegar mixture afterward. Run plain water through the coffeemaker a few times until the vinegar odor disappears. To clean the carafe & filter basket, place in the top rack of the dishwasher.”
