I have a stove top espresso and I usually just complete it by adding hot water and milk. It actually tastes quite nice but I still don’t seem to get the over the counter coffee experience at home. When I buy a coffee at a cafe, I normally drink cappuccino. How can I recreate something like this at home?

all you need is hot water and a jug or cafetiere
get some good ground coffee - Colombian say
put a tablespoon of it per person into jug
add boiled water, one cup per person
leave for a minute
strain or push the plunger down the cafetiere
add your semi skimmed milk or soya milk
that’s it

Stove top espresso is good, but not quite as rich as espresso made with a machine. That will affect your results.
The coffee you use makes a difference as well. Canned coffee is stale when you buy it, fresh ground is best. There will also be a difference in the type and quality of the beans. Kona tastes different from Panamanian & Ethiopian and a blend will taste differently. Most espressos are made with a specific blend of beans to create a desired flavor.
For cappuccino you also need to properly steam the milk (also tough without a steam wand, like those on espresso machines), plain milk won’t have the sweetness or texture.
Personally, I don’t believe in a “perfect cup” of coffee. I like a variety. That’s why I roast my own & have 7 ways to brew it.
Turkish coffee is great, but so is french pressed. They are completely different, but delicious. Experiment & find what you like, just remember that the coffee shop is using a quality espresso machine operated by someone with experience. You won’t duplicate the taste without an investment of time & some money, but there are many inexpensive ways to make great coffee.

I think it’s the type of collection of beans. I’m looking for it too.
I will fork out the money for a bag of Starbucks coffee. Until then, I’d like to share my newest find with you. It’s called Black Silk, by Folgers. It’s deep, full body, and not bitter. It still lacks the flavor I’m looking for though..

I think I’m understanding you. Colombian is good coffee, Brazilian is good too. I’m checking out Puerto Rican coffee next week. I’m in search of the right thing as well.

The best cup of coffee i make is that using my favorite brand from Starbucks. Use the best cream, french vanilla, and use the best substance in the world sugar.
