I have a one serving French press that makes excellent coffee. I have been using it for a few months at work where there is a garbage disposal. I thought nothing of pouring the grounds in there figuring the disposal would take care of it. Well, it did not. In fact it caused a backup that affected the bathroom sink as well. They had to call Roto Rooter to get it cleared out and now I am afraid to make coffee at work.
Since no filter is involved it’s hard to get the granular coffee grounds out.

I used to use a french press for coffee, and I always just gave it a good shake over an empty coffee can that I dumped into a compost bin with worms in it when it was full. The amount of grounds going down the sink wasn’t very much then. (I quit using my french press because the screens kept giving me trouble, so a little geyser would spring up when I pressed the plunger down, sending coffee everywhere.)

How about dumping the grounds in the toilet?
Or, take a small strainer to the office.http://www.culinarycookware.com/catalog.…
You could fill the press with water, swish the grounds loose then pour into the strainer. You could easily take the strainer to the trash and shake the grounds out.
If a few get through to the disposal, it should not be enough to cause a problem. Run the disposal for a few seconds after rinsing the press.

I strain out the liquid and then use a spoon or my hand and scrape the grounds out, usually into a container. Sometimes I recycle them into compost and sometimes I just toss them. Then I clean the press.
