Coffee Occasion

We’re not allowed to have coffee makers in our dorm. My guess as to why is because of the hot plate bottom.
Does anyone know of an alternative way to make coffee…something without an open hot plate?
I’ve already tried the instant coffee (the powdered stuff) route, and it didn’t taste that good.
