I use Folgers most of the time and it is kind of bitter tasting. Will I need to start out with a new coffee maker too since I’ve been brewing crappy coffee in this one for so long? Thanks in advance!

Starbucks has expensive machines that brew the coffee in a special way in order to get that great taste. At home, you will need really good beans, and a French Press. That is how the founder of Starbucks prefers his home coffee.

if youre looking for regular drip coffee, you just brew two tablespoons of GOOD coffee for every 6 ounces of SOFT PURIFIED water. i know this, because i work there. if its specialty coffees you need(lattes, mochas, etc), get a cheap espresso machine (most come with steaming wands) for less than $100. also, just clean out your old machine by running it throough a couple cycles with vinegar and water. make sure you rinse it well.

Get a job at starbucks and study their brewing techniques.

All good answers. For a coffee maker, I use a Cuisinart that you put whole beans in the top, it grinds the beans then brews the coffee. It also has a thermal carafe that keeps the coffee hot for hours without cooking it. Expensive, and a pain to clean, but great coffee!

Buy coffee beans and a coffee grinder. A new Bunn coffee maker would be excellent to have too.
Mix your selections of coffee beans, such as vanilla and Columbian to your taste and store, then freeze them in glass jars.
Only grind enough coffee for each brewing session, making sure you limit the strength as that is what helps coffee become bitter.
You’d be surprised at well your fresh coffee will taste upon following these simple methods.
